With the help of AI, users can easily generate new recipes based on their available ingredients, specific preferences such as serving size, flavor, meal type, and cuisine, creating a personalized and convenient cooking experience.

I came up with the idea for Fridgeraider when I decided to challenge myself to use up all the food in my kitchen before leaving on a month-long trip. At the start of the challenge I had no problem coming up with recipes to make based on what I had on-hand. However after the first week passed I had already run out of all my fresh vegetables and fruits, so it started to become more difficult. At one point I couldn’t think of anything to eat other than brown rice, so I listed all the ingredients I had in ChatGPT and asked it to come up with some recipes for me. I was impressed by the responses, and decided it would be really useful to have this functionality tied into an ingredient tracking app where I could keep tabs on what I have in my kitchen. We plan to expand on this initial use case to add more features like meal planning, personalized nutrition tips, and more. As food prices go up it’s becoming more and more important to use the food you buy and not let it go to waste, which is a problem we’re trying to tackle with Fridgeraider.
