Elevate your Samsung The Frame TV's art mode with Frame Crop. The app allows effortless photo cropping and access to a vast library of royalty-free art and images (via Unsplash) to match your mood and style, for a personalized art experience.
Hey PH!
I'm excited to announce the launch of Frame Crop to the Samsung Frame TV owners' community (or any other art-focused TV users). I developed this app as a personal utility to easily crop photos and make use of the vast Unsplash library to showcase art on my Frame TV.
For those unfamiliar with the Frame TV, it's a 4k TV offered by Samsung that comes with customizable bezels, flush mounting, and an art mode displaying your chosen artwork when the TV is not in use. To upload photos and add mats or other features, the TV relies on the SmartThings app. However, it lacks the option to crop existing photos or use any source other than their monthly art subscription service. This limitation led me to search for high-quality art/images, ultimately leading me to Unsplash.
Previously, my process for uploading images to the Frame was as follows:
- Find images on Unsplash
- Download the images to my Mac
- Resize them in Figma/Photoshop
- Add them to my photo library (iCloud)
- Use the SmartThings app to upload them to the Frame
Now, with Frame Crop, the middle three steps are automated, streamlining the process of getting your desired art directly onto the Frame TV. It has been a tremendous help for my family and me, and I sincerely hope you all find it equally enjoyable. As always, I'm open to hearing any feedback you may have.
@chrismessina and @shanerjeffers, congratulations on releasing Frame Crop! This app is a must-have for Samsung TV owners. By any chance, are there plans to expand compatibility with other smart TVs in the future?
Thanks @ricardo_luz! Currently it crops images using the 16:9 ratio, so you can use those images on any TV really. The app focuses on the Frame because of the art mode feature.
