Hello, ProductHunt! Flash is a FREE speed reading web app inspired by an iOS app Spdr. I really loved the idea of Spdr, but I primarily read on my laptop, so I decided to create a web version. The app allows you to speed read a lot of text by flashing (get it? 😅) words one by one rapidly. It supports virtually any rate and has a Dark mode and Light mode. Let me know what you think 🙌🏻 Also if you like the app and find it helpful, or hate it and want to rant or have improvement suggestions, be sure follow me and hit me up on Twitter 🙂

@rdev I've experimented with these before ... I'd love to see a product that delivers this in a way that feels gamified or fun. Personally I never stuck to it and just went back to old fashioned reading.

@abadesi I still read normally all the time 😅 But sometimes I need to speed through a chunk of text and this kind of tool helps a lot :)

@rdev I feel you - will def try with articles since I tend to stop at the headline or skim too much

@rdev Yes! I have to say I am genuinely flattered that you used the UI/UX from Spdr! Maybe we should combine forces, DM me!

Is there a chrome extension for example to 1-click read a medium article (which is opened and in the active tab), which gives me an overlay (similar to normal reader extension) for speed reading? Or do I always need to manually copy the text?
Max
@serglotz there isn’t right now but it sounds like a good idea. I’ll look into this. Thanks! :)

Haha, this is quite fun. Is it a good idea to read articles using it? eg -> how would it deal with para changes, quotes, lists with lots of text, etc?
Max
@aviaryan123 It treats spaces and line breaks the same way and change of paragraph always (at least in my Medium tests) resolves as multiple spaces, so it'll give you a slight pause between paragraphs.

@aviaryan123 @rdev I just copy/pasted an article, and every for every blank line (which separate paragraphs), it's displaying "Flash - A Speed Reading App". It's quite jarring. If you can fix this, I'll use this regularly. Thanks.
Max
@jholton Oh shit. It's fixed now, sorry about that 😅
johnny
@rdev Awesome, thanks!

@aviaryan123 Great idea to use for reading articles. I could easily follow along with 500 wpm and the format of words flashing keeps me focussed and I don't need to scan.
