Finbar allows you to have your very own command palette in every app on your Mac. With blazing–fast performance, fantastic fuzzy search and smart learning capabilities, it’s far superior to the Mac’s built–in menu bar search feature.
Hello Product Hunt!
My name’s Roey and I’m the independent developer behind Finbar.
Yes, your Mac’s built–in menu bar search capabilities, and in fact, I was a devout user of this feature myself for a long time. While perfectly serviceable right out of the box, I started to feel there’s a lot to be desired with the way it currently works. Here’s a non–exhaustive list:
- It has no fuzzy searching.
- In addition to menu items, it searches for topics in the app’s “help books”, and this can hinder performance significantly.
- It doesn’t remember your recently used items.
- It offers no control over excluding or including specific menu items from search results (for example, the “” menu item is never searched — with no way of changing that).
These omissions became even more evident as command palettes gained popularity as a graphical user interface pattern, and many apps started to include their own.
All of this and more persuaded me to start building Finbar. Primarily due to personal need (nowadays, I use Finbar incessantly and can’t imagine my workflow without it), but also out of true passion for great, native macOS applications. It’s a labor of love I built over nights and weekends alongside my day job as front–end developer. Try it for free right now, and if you find it useful, it’s a one-time purchase of just $9.99.
Please enjoy it as much as I do!
Finbar is an excellent addition to my workflow. "Fuzzy search" (as the creator calls it) is an amazing and helpful feature, as well as the auto-generated list of favorites. A must-have app for power users.
