With Fabric, users open the app right to their camera to see and share messages in AR as thought bubbles overhead within a half-mile. Messages can include text, photos and videos and can be seen by everyone nearby through walls and other physical barriers.
@quincylun Thanks for the questions, Quincy. The AR experience immediately puts the thoughts you are seeing in context of where you are and compels users to connect. We like to say your location is the algorithm, meaning that's your common interest. It creates the experience of seeing people's thoughts through walls and other barriers, in the direction from which they are sharing and you can literally scan an environment (even from the comfort of your home) and see what's up nearby. This creates a deeper sense of community than a flat feed. When the pandemic ends, we hope it will also encourage people to choose to meet in real life.
@quincylun The Con is that it is a new behavior for people to learn: "Look up" to see what's around you. But that's also a huge Pro, bringing people into their present, rather than endlessly and passively scrolling.
How do i see the other "social" posts? Do i just have to have the app open all the time as i walk around? I didn't see anything, tried posting but didn't see the point. Will you have any help or community docs to help onboard people? Where are people using the app, if i was in the city where the app is being used, would i see other posts?
@sam_bowers Great questions. Posts are seen by those within a half-mile from you in all directions, so if you were in an area where people are using the app, you would definitely see other posts. In a neighborhood that is on it for a "Block Party in AR" for example, you can connect with people nearby. After this pandemic, you'd be able to see tons of posts at events, concerts, sports where people are on the app. You do not need to keep the app open to see other posts. If you close the app and walk into an area where people have posted, you get a notification. We are going to have more and more information on the uses of the app, including videos, tip sheets and campaigns for people to join on the app at the same time and place (within a neighborhood, not exactly the same place). If you are interested in learning more, please join our forum (early stages still) at http://sparkfabric.com/community.... We would love to have you part of it and look forward to your ideas and feedback.
