Hi Product Hunt!
My name is Stephen and I’m one of the co-founders of Exponent, an interview prep platform to help more folks get jobs in tech.
One of the hardest parts of getting a job is standing out from the candidate pool. Without a friend already working at your dream company or a business-school connection you can DM on LinkedIn, it can feel like you’re sending your resume into a void.
We’re rethinking the referral process in an attempt to democratize access to tech jobs and growth opportunities.
Exponent’s new job referral platform gives candidates access to referrers they may not otherwise connect with. Similarly, referrers can share top-tier candidates to get referral bonuses at their place of work.
💻 Accelerate your job search—Referrals are the fastest way to get interviews in tech and are proven to improve your chances of landing the offer.
📈 Connect with our 300+ person referral network—Get your resume seen by an exclusive network of hundreds of Exponent members currently employed at top tech companies.
⏲️ Get seen by employees in minutes—We made our referral process as smooth as possible. All you need is your resume and the job position you're interested in.
Looking for a job referral? Work at a company that’s hiring? I hope you enjoy our new referral network platform.
I’m looking forward to answering questions and hearing feedback from the PH community!
Seeing lots of products like this enter the recruiting space. I'm not quite sure why they haven't panned out, maybe y'all can break the ice!
I've heard of https://refermarket.com whom I know has helped a few colleagues
https://refspark.com/ shut down after ~8k users and 2 years of service
https://repher.me/ is just no longer being maintained. I know this because the same colleagues requested referrals here and they were never responded to.
@joshob23 Really great points. We see our platform helping folks get referrals a bit differently in a few ways:
* We're starting from a really strong base of 500k+ users in our community which allows kickstarting this much more easily
* We're not having any fees in our platform to start - focusing on quality and matching right now.
* We're adding features soon to allow for better ranking of candidates (how much content they've consumed, how many peer mock interviews they've done) to help referrers spend their time more thoughtfully.
We're eager to combine the best of Exponent's interview prep experience with our referral product to help radically improve the recruitment experience in tech.
This is so necessary right now with the current hiring climate in tech. Great work team!
Quick question, can I share this with some data scientist friends as well or is it PMs and SWEs currently?
Exponent has been great in my interview prep for preparing for behaviorial questions which is the foundation to getting the next (and more technical interviews)
I think the paid content is simply not worth it. I challenge anyone to give me a reasons to buy it. There is a lot of great content for free.
Instead of high quality mock interviews and answers you get some junior people who act like their are right hand of Elon Musk. Big egos, not much input.
One of the other reasons I bought the subscription was to have access to great quality video answers to most popular interview questions. In the free version you get to see one or two good videos, thinking that if you pay for the subscription you get access to even more videos like that. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. Its border line SCAM. The quality of these videos is so bad. People take 40 minutes to answer "tell me about yourself" questions. Its like they took the best 3 videos, presented to get you to buy while the long tail is just terrible.
Not to mention the peer interview mock matching either doesn't work, or people are either junior or not prepared.
To sum up:
- poor quality of Mock Interviews and Video answers-> the answers are poorly structured, too long, with no good feedback at the end offer. It may work for complete beginners but I just cannot picture this being useful for more senior folks
- poor matching for mock interviews - > most of the time I cant find match or Im being matched with junior practitioners
- poor quality of coaching options -> most of coaches I've got a chance to preview, performed rather poorly during the mock interviews, at least against what you would expect from someone positioning him/herself as a COACH looking to charge 200 USD per hour)
Reco: Don't buy exponent. I've done my research, checked other sides. etc best I found and recommend is PMexercises by Bijan Shahrokhi. Good content, top quality mock interviews and great mock interviews partners. All of that for only 140 USD. Check first on youtube his videos and judge for yourself.
