Great idea, and totally coherent when we see the amount of food wasted every day. 😓
Have you considered putting a bar code scanner, for the app to recognize directly what product it is ?
@claire_lavaud No, I didn't think on Barcodes! That's a great (!) idea, I tried thinking of ways to make entering products easier, because it's currently annoying to enter all the products you bought & I think on long term it's too much effort for most.
To support this: Currently 27 users registered and together they entered 9 items.
I thought on scanning the expiry date, but didn't go through with it as it seemed rather complicated and would likely take me many times the time I spent on the whole project.
Besides that, I thought that it requires a native app to access the camera and I don't have any experience with mobile apps. But I just checked and it's actually possible in a PWA!
Barcodes seem like a perfect solution though, it should be rather easy to integrate, there are databases which I scan for information and I could propose entries for the expiry date based on categories which could save some time in that regard too.
My sister thought of proposing recipes based on what's in the "fridge", combined with a lot easier scanning this could actually be a very nice app and far more useful than now. This looks like a v2 already...
Thank you very much for that idea!

Hi ProductHunt! 👋
Expiry.Observer is built to help you keep track of food expiration dates.
As I'm trying to reduce my trips to the supermarket due to 🦠 Corona, I started buying more food at once. This resulted in my fridge filling up quickly and I soon began checking everything in the fridge before cooking, to know what has to be eaten first.
First thing I did, was writing 📝 down, what food expired in the next few days, and crossing out what I ate.
But as I kept adding new food, it quickly became confusing.
That's why I created this small tool, to help me (and you!) see on a glance what expires next!
Expiry.Observer is the first thing I've built (and finished 😅) and therefore my first launch. I hope you like it!
