Hi Product Hunt! I was recently made redundant, so in order to keep my skills sharp (and break up the monotony of job hunting), I built a side project that I'm excited to share with you. It's called Existential and it's an AI-powered career exploration tool that makes recommendations based on your interests, skills, and values. 👉 https://getexistential.com 👈 The stress that came with redundancy reminded me of the times in my life that I am tempted to call existential crises. The first doesn't seem like such a big deal in hindsight, but when I realised halfway through my civil engineering degree that I didn't want to be a civil engineer, I felt so lost. I was fortunate that my side project at the time (the ChangeMyView subreddit) was taking off in a way that presented the opportunity to co-found a startup after graduating. We had some successes (*cough* Barack Obama shared our launch article on Facebook *cough*), but we ultimately failed to gain enough traction. I remember New Year's Eve 2020 vividly as a low point: jobless, broke, and isolating with Covid to top it off. I found a job in Feb 2021, which began a fantastic two years as a product manager. But sadly, the company recently closed its doors. Reflecting on these difficult times, I realised that while they were stressful in different ways, they each shared a craving for purpose. I've come to believe this is a widespread problem suffered in silence. That's why I've built Existential. My hope is that it can offer guidance and support to those who feel alone or lost in their search for a fulfilling career. Interesting concept. How do you plan to monetize it.

@jsteneros My current thinking is that some version of how the app works today will always be free. What follows is where the monetisation would come in. If a user would like to pursue a recommended career path, then the idea is that Existential would help them achieve it. The specific ways in which Existential can be helpful through that process are yet to be determined; I'll be guided by feedback here.

@kalturnbull I guess you could connect it with a job board marketplace or have some scraping service that matches to job postings on other platforms, and you can charge for this. I got recommended to be Business Analyst, which could work for me. I also got a Software Engineer, but although I know a bit of coding, I know this is not for me. Hope it takes off.

Cool product and I think what this is trying to solve/help with is one of the most important things people will do in their lives, especially now more than ever with the advent of AI potentially taking everyone's career. I'd love to give you some more feedback if you're interested in improving the project and potentially being a part of it. I saw you used bubble.io. I've worked with bubble.io extensively (several web apps, one native).
