EternalSelf was initially built for myself. Story A few years ago, I was severely overweight and working as a software engineer. My life had no order—I was depressed, experiencing pain everywhere, likely from a combination of obesity, terrible sleep habits, poor diet, cigarettes, and sodas. I would go to bed with overwhelming anxiety, genuinely fearing I might die of a heart attack in my sleep. For about five years, I had no social life and no interests beyond work and family. Then it hit me: What if I actually died in my sleep or at my desk? What would happen to everything stored on my computer? My bank accounts, projects, unspoken words to family, unsent letters—would it all just vanish? As a software engineer, I knew I could build something to address this, but I let years pass without acting. Fortunately, I eventually pulled myself together. While exploring AI and working on various projects, I remembered this idea. Even though I'd gotten my life back on track, the possibility of sudden loss exists for all of us. So I started building EternalSelf. I have an extensive roadmap of features I want to implement before my own account ever needs to fulfill its ultimate purpose. In the meantime, I've decided to launch it for everyone who's felt the need to preserve more than just physical assets—to leave an actual legacy, at least digitally. You don't need to store critical information directly if you prefer not to. You could simply store links to your cloud storage and authorize specific people to receive them. This isn't just about using a service—it's about taking time to think and prepare for the inevitable, ensuring your digital and cognitive assets don't fade away but instead pass on to your loved ones, friends, and family. I wanted to share the story behind why I built this. I wish you all the best.
