Online dating can be time consuming and exhausting. Elektrif.ai uses GPT3 to generate personalized conversation starters, rephrases your messages to be more engaging, and more.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋🏻
Today I'm introducing Elektrif.ai, the first ai-powered online dating assistant that helps make your conversations electric⚡️
Dating is a difficult and often personal subject for a lot of people. In-person communities where organic connections used to be made are shrinking, and online dating has stepped in to fill the gap. Unfortunately, online dating comes with a lot of negative experiences:
😰 Too many people results in "conversation fatigue". You might match with a number of people, spend a significant amount of time and energy thinking of the right thing to say, only to never hear back from a large portion of them. After awhile, the effort starts to not feel worth it.
💼 You get inundated with too many conversations. Keeping up starts to feel like a part-time job when you'd rather just be going on actual dates.
👩💻 Having to rely solely on text-based communication doesn't feel like you're able to put your best self out there or get a feel for what the other person is like.
With this being the reality going into 2023, it's easy to get discouraged and never feel like you're going to meet someone you're excited about. I've personally spent almost a decade on and off "the apps" and have learned a few things that do help make it better, such as:
- First messages matter
- Tailor your messages to the person you're talking to. No one likes feeling generic.
- It's not always what you say, it's how you say it
- Be respectful, but don't be boring
With the recent advances in AI (thank you OpenAI, GPT3 etc), I built Elektrif.ai to help relieve some of the online dating fatigue and make it easy for anyone to follow these guidelines towards success. Elektrif.ai:
🧊 Generates personalized ice breakers to kickstart the conversation
😆 Rephrase your messages to make them more engaging
🔜 Will help you carry a conversation, communicate kindly and effectively when things get difficult or uncomfortable, and even help you generate content for your own profile.
Hopefully, with a little help, we can all have better online dating experiences that feel fun, light, and exciting again.
We're a small team (just me! 👋🏻) building this over the holiday break. It's definitely still in beta, but at a point where it can start adding value to people's lives, and hopefully get some feedback too. If any of these problems resonate with you, or you find the product helpful, I'd love to hear from you! And share your success stories with me on twitter!
@maushundb Hi there! 🤗 That sounds like an interesting product. We'd love to hear more about what makes Elektrif.ai unique and how it can help make online dating easier and more enjoyable for people. Looking forward to seeing your launch on Product Hunt!
thanks @farisa_ottaviano! A big component of making things easier is just taking the load off of you having to always be "on" for a bunch of different conversations. It's so easy to be talking to someone and things seem to be going well. Then you have one bad day and say something unengaging and the conversation fizzles. In a lot of ways, the vision for Elektrifai is a conversation ally, it doesn't just have to be for dating. No one likes small talk - everyone wants to have fun an interesting conversations, and most of the time it's not the content that makes them fun, it's the phrasing and tone.
Unique wise - GPT3 prompts aren't much of a moat I'll admit. But hoping to gather more training data and have it learn each user's unique banter style soon. Also dating is an under-served space when it comes to cutting-edge tech in my experience. Lots of it are tools to game the system like mass spamming likes or just plain lying. With this new wave of AI, I'm hoping to make a more precise tool that works in harmony with the current ecosystem, not tries to dupe it.
I actually created a youtube about this subject and automatised my Tinder with GPT3, it might be a good feature for your website if you want to get inspired you can check it out here:
I open sourced the code 🙃
Congrats on your launch!
@anthony_riera1 Thanks Anthony! There's two bits of feedback in here I'm seeing -
1. Adding a feature to totally automate dating app responses
2. Bringing functionality closer to where the action happens (in this case, having the responses fill in on the Tinder web app).
Definitely considered both of these ideas, with some mixed thoughts.
re #1 - I don't particularly like the idea of fully automating one's dating app. To me it's one of those "sure we can, but SHOULD we?". I'd say no - in dating, I believe honesty is a really important principle. If you sat down for a date and found out the person you were talking to before was a totally automated bot, how would you feel? Elektrif.ai is built on the idea of refining yourself, not replacing yourself. It can be a fine line to tread, but I think removing agency completely is over the line.
re #2 - Absolutely! I think this is on the shorter list of things for me to do once the functionality is a bit more refined. As-is, we're a web app where you have to copy and paste the result into whatever medium you talking on. That can be a bit of a pain. Having it be a chrome extension (a-la Ellie ) would be a much nicer interface.
@maushundb Hey Brandon thanks for the details answer to my comment!
I 100% agree with you, my experiment was well... an experiment and I think the same way than you are, dating should be personal and no automated by any mean.
However, I really like your approach of "dating coach" through an AI. At the end of the day, it's all about being more creative in your way of talking to someone else's message.
But a big question arise tho, is it still "you" that chat with the other? Won't be the real "you" different without the help of the AI?
This is why I love this type of products, we know their amazing potential, but the truth is that we don't really know their future impact on humans!
Anyway, congrats again on your launch 🙃
@maushundb Hey. The only drawback I see is that I need to go on your website every time. The perfect scenario would be some kind of implementation directly into chats. However this is surely pretty impossible to develop.
A part from this, I would love to see the upcoming features you're working on!
@nicsi Nah that's great feedback thank you! Was thinking something similar actually. It's certainly doable for sites that have web clients (Tinder, Bumble) via Chrome Extension. Mobile apps might be a different story.
