You cannot fix racism with more racism.
Trevin Chow
@realaugustrush I fail to see how highlighting and raising awareness of Black owned businesses perpetuates racism.
Stuart Hinde
@trevin change it all to white owned. Picture a little clearer. It should be based on the food, not the colour of the owners.
Trevin Chow
@gruffi67 We live in a white dominant culture that affords a lot of privilege. A few articles that may help bring clarity to why celebrating and highlighting minority groups are not racist in return. https://www.vox.com/identities/2... https://lanthorn.com/64015/opini... http://www.bu.edu/articles/2019/...

@gruffi67 You are completely missing the point, educate yourself

@trevin Treating people differently because of their skin color is textbook racism. This product's sole purpose is explicitly to help people be racist in favor of black people. We have a LONG way to go as a society if people like you and those that sadly upvoted your comment somehow cannot understand how grossly unjust something like this is. Just imagine if somebody made a product where the *sole* purpose was to show you which businesses were owned by white people with the implication that you'd support them *because* their skin was white. Racism is sickening and cuts deep wounds both ways. This only deepens those wounds. "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Oh boy here we go again. When covid became a global pandemic people started building bunch of apps related to covid. Now with this protest people starting to build apps that are pointing to persons color and blah blah only to get more attention and hype. Anyway good luck

@karl0s At least the developers have courage and are looking for ways to be a part of the solution, and not sit on the sidelines denying that a problem continues to exist as many folks have done for decades.
Artur Col
@bhold2000 imagine building app with the name "Find local White owned restaurants" (sounds f* uped)
Chris Messina
@karl0s you just described every other restaurant app.
Artur Col
@chrismessina You poor naive child :) bul and again bul , i know plenty of places on for example grubhub in Brooklyn, owners are from all over the world
Chris Messina
@karl0s ah, condescension! Yes, an effective way to convince me of your perspective! 😂 You said, "Anyway good luck". What did you mean by that? Good luck with getting attention and hype?

I've been using Eat Okra to peruse and support Black-owned restaurants. Handy since we moved not too long ago and wanted to have this information at our fingertips.
