I'm Sam, a co-founder of Yarn Corporation, the team building Driftspace. We’ve been working on Driftspace for the last several years, and today we’re excited to share it on Product Hunt! Here’s the premise:
The Problem: The ability to create VR content is out of reach for most individuals and organizations. Companies and brands seeking to take advantage of these trends often turn to video production studios and digital marketing agencies. The software that these studios use today is complex and requires specialized skills, which in turn makes it time-consuming and expensive to produce VR experiences. The resulting expense often outweighs the benefits. Furthermore—and perhaps most limiting—existing solutions fail to prioritize user experience. They don’t enable creator collaboration. And, they don’t easily enable remote social experiences.
The Solution: Driftspace is a new media platform truly native to spatial computing—a combination of Squarespace and Instagram for VR—a creation tool and a publishing platform for VR experiences. Initially targeted at professional VR video studios, our intuitive interface empowers “creatives” like art directors and video editors to publish interactive VR content without having to write code. We provide high-quality user experience and design elements, and then our creators add their own content to build and share immersive VR stories about people, places, moments, products, and brands.
We call these immersive stories “drifts.” Like an Instagram “story,” a drift combines video with 3D-rendered content, floating text, images, and effects. Drifts can be linked together like pages on the web. You can experience these stories from the inside and travel (or drift) between them, visiting interesting places and times both captured and created. We make it easy to create immersive experiences and provide a simple way to publish them.
