The idea for this competition and collaboration platform came out of time spent at the Amala Foundation's youth programs where youth from all walks of life are united for experiences focused on personal growth, leadership development, cultural exchange and community building (most programs are a week-long and unite 70 youth representing 20+ countries). It was through these transformational experiences that we were able to witness the connecting (and healing) power of music and dance (and the ridiculous amount of fun a bunch of people who don't all speak the same language can have doing dance-offs), and how creative expression can help build, strengthen, and grow a community. Our hope is DanceFight becomes the safest, most inclusive platform possible. We also hope that we are able re-frame how competition is seen and experienced by young people - where being yourself, letting go of fear of judgement (as much as possible), being courageous, having your voice heard, and celebrating your uniqueness is valued over winning. And that losing is not the end of the world, rather a momentary blip and a possible opportunity to learn, grow and practice walking through adversity and self-doubt. We know this is ambitious but we feel confident we have the team to pull it off.
