Always interested in new drone platforms, but CyPhy is taking on 3DR and DJI - already big, established players. Will Lvl1 have enough new features to compete/take a niche?
@atroyn That's a great comment Anton. Its not the number of features, its the utility or fun of them. LVL 1 flies better, is more intuitive to control, is safer, and has in flight social sharing.
@atroyn Also there was a multi-thousand dollar robotic vacuum on the market when we introduced roomba. Turns out that there is a consumer price point and it is a few hundred dollars. Others are targeting prosumers, industrial, and semi-professional movie making.
@helengreiner Thanks for the answer Helen - I meant more that there would be many new features, rather than a bigger feature set overall. Very interesting stuff. Is Lvl1 making use of the microfilament tether developed for your other drones somehow?
@atroyn, the microfilament is used on our industrial drones. It would be fun to bring infinite flight time to the consumer sector, but it doesn't have as broad appeal as tether-less flight.
Helen was recently on This Week in Startups with Jason Calacanis. It's a great, candid interview -- http://thisweekinstartups.com/he...
I was surprised to learn just how long the drone industry has been around (though it's come a long way).
The CyPhy LVL 1 looks awesome. :)
