As parents, we often experience anxiety wondering if our sleeping baby is still breathing. We invented CubaWand to easily check without needing to touch or wake baby. Cuba provides a soft light glow and gentle vibration with every little breath.
Hi product hunt community!
I'm are excited to share our project with everyone. Dylan Rowe here, I'm one of 3 co-founders of PEMDx, a medtech startup based in Brisbane Australia.
The beginning of CubaWand started at a family BBQ talking to one of my sisters, she was discussing the anxiety she was having at night staring at her newborn trying to see if she was breathing (after talking to many other parents this actually turned out to be really common). She didn't want to use the continuous wearable monitors as she thought it would just lead to even more anxiety with false alarms etc, and she was having trouble using the finger under the nose method on her baby, she just couldn't feel the tiny airflow. It would result in her touching baby to feel for chest movements, often leading to her little one waking!
I just happened to be working on a low-cost respiratory monitor for use in third world hospitals, and thought 'Hey I'm sure we could rig up a variation of my current tech that would help!'. And that's how the CubaWand project was born!
In a nutshell, the device is a handheld wand that is simply turned on and held near the nose/ mouth of the baby. It will measure each breath, and give a green light glow and haptic vibration with every breath the baby takes. Providing an easy way for parents to quickly check on their sleeping baby, and reducing the risk of waking them up (and the inevitable trying to get them back to sleep afterwards).
We have now commercialised the device and have the first batch ready for sale. We hope that the device can give some other parents peace of mind without the $400 price tag of some of the continuous stuff out there!
