The MacOS app that makes maintaining your clipboard history fun. Cliptonite lives inside the menubar and lets you quickly copy and paste items from your clipboard history.
Hi ProductHunt,
I just launched Cliptonite! It's a clipboard manager app for macOS.
The app features:
- Beautiful design - responsive layout based on SwiftUI, customize it how you want.
- Store 1000 clipboard items. (10 for the free version)
- Thumbnails - see a preview of copied files/images/screenshots.
- Create custom collections of items. (Pro feature)
- Favorites - add your frequently copied items to the favorite list.
- Search - powerful and quick searching of all your items.
- Keyboard navigation - browse items with arrow keys.
- Shortcuts - add global shortcuts to launch the app, or use known commands to copy/delete items.
- Rich text preview: see the actual look of text that contains RTF styling.
- Text to QR - quickly create QR codes and scan them on your phone to read the text.
- Trash Management - delete unnecessary items but keep them in the trash for just-in-case. (Pro feature)
- Link detection - any copied link will be highlighted, and can be opened directly in the browser.
- Hex color detection - copied hex colors are highlighted with full-color preview.
- Quick text preview - sneak peek inside an item.
- Dark theme - or Light, whichever you prefer.
- Redact sensitive data - temporarily blackout/hide an item when in need.
- Quickly pause/resume the app
- and so more!
I also have so much more planned for the app. It took me many weeks of planning, designing, coding, and testing to create this. I am very proud of the outcome. I hope you take it for a spin. I really look forward to your feedback.

Really like the look of this app. I know there are a good few clipboard managers out there. Cliptonite (great name by the way) looks like it’s a lightweight version of the increasingly complex versions around.
If it’s written natively for Mac and all on device/privacy protecting I’d say that’s something worth highlighting!
Bonus points if in the future you have a cross device iOS app!
@richinapps Hi Richard, thanks for your comment!
It is indeed written native. The UI is all SwiftUI; and I barely used any third party packages that's why the final binary is only 1.3 MB.
The app doesn't collect any info. All your data are locally stored, and Cliptonite can't access the internet and doesn't need any permissions.
I have iCloud Sync and a native iPhone app planned, but can't promise anything as it really depends on how good this one does :)
Finally! When I switched from Windows to Mac this was the thing that annoyed me the most. Also I like the design, it looks like a native extension to the OS. Really good work!
This app has potential. I suggest the the following features be added:
- the pop-up should always appear on the screen that's currently on-focus
- the pop-up should close automatically when clicking on anywhere on a screen (it shouldn't be necessary to perform the key combination again to do so)
- pressing Return should make it possible to copy and paste straightaway
- the status bar icon border should be thinner, in the wake of what Mac Os' default graphic icons look like
Further suggestions:
- The "the main window should not be always on top" setting could be reversed in its logic and set to true by default.
- For some reason the favorites get pruned in the free version after a while. It is possible that they are somehow deleted after the clip limit is reached.
