Hey guys,
I made this project as I couldn't find the time to search what Clinton and Trump were saying about a specific topic. The website use Algolia's API with the Youtube captions of several public interventions of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It allows us to search instantly everything they said. Then you can watch the video at the exact time they say it.
The two last debates are already in the database. I will add the last one when it will be released on Youtube.
One limitation: the project depends on the quality of Youtube captions. Sometimes the subtitles do not perfectly match with the speech transcript but the overall quality is good.
Would love to hear your feedback!
@maximepico Thanks Maxime for your comment. The selection was limited to the videos with closed captions available. Then, I handpicked the videos, trying to find as much speeches (< 1 year ago) of the two candidates as I could. I also added the two presidential debates.
I'm currently watching the debate (while having breakfast; this might not be my greatest idea) and perfect timing: here is a search engine for Youtube captions to find what the American presidential candidates are saying about any topic. I'll be fact checking and eating my cereals.
Well done @nico_lrx 👌
You've told me about it last week but I wouldn't imagine it was that cool, congrats!
I had funny experimentations using all kind of words so I'll be interested in seeing your stats or major trends 😹
Two suggestions:
- Add a player to load the videos in it directly so you wouldn't have to open new tab.
In my opinion you may lost a lot of users by redirecting them to YouTube without possibilities to come back.
- Test it with other medium sources: facebook videos, podcasts and basically any audio/video that can have a written transcription.
@matthieudeluze Thanks for your feedback Matthieu, happy to hear that you like it!
I tried to load the videos directly on the website but apparently you can't add a time variable to the video when you embed it...
Then, I agree to add other medium sources, the challenge is to analyze the voice if there is no subtitles ;)
@nico_lrx@matthieudeluze Nicolas let's chat real quick if you want ;) You can actually and I can show you how. Look at what I've done here : http://ask.garyvaynerchuk.com (click on any link)
-- Btw also powered by Algolia :) Congrats really cool project!
