Cardsy makes greeting card buying a little more fun and a lot more thoughtful. We collaborate with artists to create every single greeting card featured on Cardsy—and we share a portion of the profit directly with the artist.
Hey everyone, Phil from Cardsy—I'm excited to be here! Thanks @hnshah for hunting us.
Cardsy is an ecomm greeting card shop that collaborates with a rotating set of artists to create awesome greeting cards for life's important moments.
Why Artists? Artists have a pretty good knack for bringing emotions to life. Whether its joy, support, or a good laugh, art can communicate what we feel but can’t quite put into words.
With each card sold, we share profits directly with the artist who designed it.
Through talking with a lot of folks, there's a familiar experience most of us have: An important day has arrived—your partner’s birthday or a good friend's wedding. You're getting ready and it hits you... you forgot to buy a card. In a last-minute rush, you swing by the store, pick-up a hallmark card, and scribble a note right as you arrive. You tell yourself you'll remember to pick up a better one next time.
I've always found that the best part of giving or receiving a gift is a thoughtful note that goes along with it. But the card is the part we often forget.
We're building Cardsy to change that.
The ecomm shop is v1. Up next, we're thinking about building a product that ingests the dates of all your important occasions (anniversaries, birthdays, etc.) and delivers the perfect card to your doorstep a week before the moment. After some initial traction, we'll start putting more energy here.
Take a look at the site and let us know what you think! Open to any feedback and happy to answer any questions.
Thanks for checking out Cardsy!
@thatakke agreed. $30 minimum purchase amount sounds kinda crazy considering the target audience, which is probably people who want to send a birthday or thank you card to someone....
@thatakke Hey Akke - thanks for your feedback!
Hah, yes it is! Glad you like the initial designs. We're working on new designs and featured themes (like "the 90s") very soon.
For the order min - the intention was to have a higher min, and offer free shipping on all orders but we've taken your feedback here and removed the $30 minimum and instead added a shipping fee for all orders under $30 (while keeping shipping free for orders over $30). Also made a PH promo code: PRODUCTHUNT10.
We hope to expand beyond US & Canada if we can in the future :)
Thanks for your feedback, Akke.
Hi @anna_0x - thanks for your feedback! We took it into account and removed the $30 minimum and instead added a shipping fee for all orders under $30 (while keeping shipping free for orders over $30). Our intention was to be able to keep shipping free, but looks like a lower minimum is more useful. Thanks for checking us out : )
@thatakke Actually, I do respect the $30 mo, given that these are not the regular cards you'll find somewhere else, plus it is curated and original direct from artists, and what's best, they share the profits with them. My take on this, what about actually give artists a profile so customers can actually go and see all of their designs? Perhaps I would like a specific style that only a designer would do? Take it to the next level and build a community around it.
@antonio_bologna Love this idea. We try to do it now but it's not as highlighted as it could be within our current Squarespace limitations. https://www.getcardsy.com/artists (there's a link on each artist's profile to take you to the cards they designed). We could have an option for you to subscribe to a specific artist so that you can follow their work & when they have new designs. If you have more thoughts, we're all ears. The thing that makes me really excited about these cards is working with the artists, hearing their stories, so we'd love to share more of that with the community. Thanks for checking us out!
This is a great idea - the greeting card industry is bloated and lazy with incredible margins (my first job ever was at American Greetings so I can speak from some experience). However I gotta agree with the above challenge that the $30 minimum purchase amount is steep. If you could deliver greeting cards that are 10x better than those at the store (beautiful, niche, highly customized, etc), without someone ever having to leave the house, with pre-scheduled delivery, for half the price - you’d take the market.
@evomoore Thanks Evan! Great points here. We hear you on the $30 minimum. The intention was to have a higher min, and offer free shipping on all orders.
I've taken your feedback and removed the $30 minimum and instead added a shipping fee for all orders under $30 (while keeping shipping free for orders over $30).
I'm confident the cards are 10x better. Pre-scheduled delivery on the roadmap.
Thanks for your feedback.
