Stay in control while browsing the internet: - Set time limits on websites - Automatically track how much time you've spent on each one - Automatically block yourself once your limit is reached on that website
Not to long ago I was spending loads of time getting lost in Reddit rabbit holes, and watching Youtube classics like:
- Seal farts after looking directly at me
- Trump mistakenly calls Lil Pump "Little Pimp" at last rally
- r/unpopularopinion
- The infamous grilled cheese post on r/grilledcheese (first comment had me π)
π More on those links in a bit. I know my experience isn't unique, and you've probably experience something similar. It's just really easy to spend hours of your day on random Youtube videos and infinitely scrolling websites.
I've never felt good after binging mind-numbing websites. Yeah I just watched a seal fart after looking directly at me and it was cool 'n all, but I just robbed myself of my own time. This quote from Musonius Rufus summarizes my feelings simply:
"if you achieve something good with hard work, the labor passes away, but the good remains. If you do something shameful for the sake of pleasure, the pleasure passes, but the shame remains" (s/o r/stoicism)
Youtube, Twitter, Reddit etc. are great in moderation, but that's the problem. Moderation. Every time I got on one of these sites I felt out of control. I wanted to get back in control, and I wanted to enjoy my sites in moderation like a god damn adult. I made Cap to help me be aware of when to stop using these websites.
Go download Cap. Start moderating how much time you watch seal farting videos. Free you mind π§ πͺ
Then tell your friends about Cap, because they're gonna wanna see that farting seal video. After you show them that farting seal video their Youtube recommendations are gonna be wild, and they'll need something to cut them off. Then tell your Mom about Cap, because god knows shes spending way too much time on Facebook as it is. Then Tell your Dad and have him disapprovingly tell you he doesn't need it, and he can handle himself on the internet (while his browser toolbar is filled with ad-ware and straight up has like 9-10 search bars from Google, Yahoo, Bing and 7 other search engines you haven't heard of). Ok maybe just my Dad, but dude come on I don't even know how you install that much adware.
Lastly, nothing is perfect and works for everyone. Feel free to comment and email me (learningcomputations@gmail.com) with your suggestions on how I can improve Cap. I'd love nothing more than to make Cap better and more enjoyable for all of it's users. β€οΈ
Thanks for reading and enjoy Cap! π€
