Callthentic prevents spam calls to your iPhone. It compliments the new iOS 13 "Silence Unknown Calls" feature. Callers not in your phone’s contact list are challenged for the call to complete. No junky voicemail to deal with either. $1.99 monthly sub price
I had no idea Apple had opened the API up enough to allow something like this to be possible. Really cool and I'm sure particularly useful in a business setting where you receive a lot of unknown calls. Could you go into the privacy implications a little? Do you/your systems log/record my calls etc?
@kieranmcgrady We do not specifically log your calls, but we do keep track of the calls that were blocked/diverted as spam. This is used to inform the user of a diverted call which is important and we also keep stats to track our performance. The only recordings in our system are the voicemails, but those actually reside on our back-end Telephony provider, not our servers. Our telephony logs every voice call on their system which is standard operating procedure in the industry.
There are many other apps to stop spam calls available, but I believe Callthentic has a unique process. If a caller is not in your existing contacts, our app challenges the caller to prove they are not a bot. If the challenge is passed the call is allowed through, otherwise it is terminated. Your contacts remain in your phone and are not uploaded to our servers. We work with the new iOS 13 ability to "Silence Unknown Callers" which forwards to our process instead of directly to native voicemail.
I don't expect to win any design awards for the current UI, but more importantly the app functions as intended. As a daily user of the app, I can tell you that in the short spans where I was without it, the frustration from unwanted calls was insane. I can't live without it now.
Because the app requires specific call forwarding codes that vary for each mobile carrier, we can only offer service with tested carriers. In the US, that is currently AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile. We have capability for Rogers and Telus in Canada. If your locale isn’t yet supported, we can always setup a beta test with you providing call forwarding is available from your carrier.
Current monthly subscription price is $1.99 for iOS 13 users.
I will try this shortly. Until now, I usually just ignore those calls. IT's a waste of time talking to them. Sometimes I also look up the numbers on Google or some complaint boards like http://whycall.me to see if people have reported certain numbers as spammers, and then I will just block them manually. Thanks for making this app, Jason!
