I’m really excited to introduce you to Buy it Black, a commerce-centric digital directory designed to help you to source and purchase from Black-owned businesses. We bring together 500+ Black-owned businesses to help shoppers consciously and intentionally direct their buying power towards these communities. There are more than 2 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S. alone. Nearly 1.9 Million of the 2 million Black-owned businesses do not have paid employees. Systematic barriers and a lack of community resources can make it difficult for Black entrepreneurs to receive the same financial and operational advantages that others access more easily. As an intersectional Black female entrepreneur, I recognize these factors all too well myself. This is exactly why Buy it Black exists. This is a collective passion project that directs consumers to the independent businesses at no cost to them. Moving forward, our plan is to offer mentorship and funding opportunities to independent Black businesses. In BiB’s current state, consumers can search for specific products, submit other Back-owned businesses or browse shops. Retailers can reach out to us for curation assistance on stocking new products on their shelves. We’re by no means the only Black-owned directory on the market, but we did build BiB with ease of access and simplicity in mind.
