Budget Seer is lets you see your daily account balances so you can easily see if you are within your budget _every_ day, not just for the ends of the month. With that you can then see how much you have free to use on a given day without affecting your future!
Once up on a time I was struggling to make sure I had the right amount of money in my account before auto-pay bills would come due, and a few times I was hit with late fees and overdraft fees because of it. I knew all the bills fit in the monthly budget, but I got paid twice a month and my bills didn't come in evenly on the two halves of the month.
So I made a massive spreadsheet to try and figure it out. I still have it, and it gives me a nice overview of our budget, but it was a pain to build and it is a pain to update. So I went looking for a better solution.
I tried many different budgeting apps and tools, and none did what I wanted, until I found an online budgeting _calendar_ that let me see my balance every day, and that fixed all my problems!
But it had a monthly fee, and it required me to be online to check my budget. The fee was worth paying to avoid further overdrafts, but it was still a drain on the budget, and I really wanted to use a native app that didn't require me to be online. And that is when the idea for Budget Seer was born!
The basic idea is you can see your budget laid out on a calendar to make it possible to see how much money you should have in each of your accounts on any given day, making it easier to plan and budget for specific bills and events. Have a bill coming up but can't remember when? Check the date in Budget Seer. Not sure if you have enough in the right account for the payment to go through? Check Budget Seer. Your main account doesn't have the money in it? Select multiple accounts to get your total balance, so you can easily see which account has enough to cover the bill.
No more custom spreadsheets, no more tedious paper math. Using a calendar has made my monthly budgeting sooo much easier. Just put your recurring transactions in (like steady income and monthly bills) and step through the months to see what your balance forecast is for any day you want to see!
Please check it out on the Mac App Store and let me know what you think!
I have plans to add even more useful views and charts that you'd expect in a budgeting tool, with a focus on making it possible to see where your finances have been, and where they are going. You can even open multiple windows to easily see multiple accounts and multiple months at the same time. (And I want to let you make 'hypothetical' scenarios that represent your goals and expectations, while leaving your 'reality' scenario alone. Then as your update your reality scenario the others will reflect those changes as well.)
After you've tried it out please let me know what you think I should work on first, and if you don't have a Mac please let me know what platforms you would like to see this on. I currently have plans to bring it to iPad and iPhone, and if there is enough interest I can bring it to Windows and Android someday as well. (That may need help from some more engineers but I'll do my best to make it happen as soon as possible!)
Also, as of today, July 26, 2024 it is only available in the USA and only supports USD, but I nearly have support for multiple currencies ready. Please let me know if you want other currency support right away or live in another country so I can gauge how soon I need to get that ready!
I'm soooo excited to see what everyone thinks. I'm working on this every day and plan on making updates as often as I have bug fixes and new features ready to go, so give me your feedback and I'll get right on it!
Wow, @rtharston, this sounds like such a game changer for budgeting! Love how youâre tackling the everyday struggle of managing finances. The calendar view is super smartâdefinitely way easier than juggling spreadsheets. Canât wait to check it out on the Mac App Store.
Also, the idea of creating hypothetical scenarios is! So useful for planning ahead. Hope to see it on more platforms soon too. Keep us updated on new features; Iâm totally interested in whatâs coming next!
