Thank you @gregoiregilbert. Biking is a big part of our culture, especially in bigger cities. It's quite amazing to see bicycle parkings filled with 1000s of bikes. I love cycling, traveling and couch surfing. I poured these 3 things together & the idea for BikeSharing was born :)
So what is BikeSharing:
As a cyclist, you are used to going everywhere by bike. As a traveller, however, you know you can’t always bring your bike wherever you go. Find someone on .bike-sharing.org who will let you discover their city on their bike: enter your destination and find a bike. Moreover, this is a great tool to meet fellow cyclists, ask them for advice and/or hang out with them.
I'm happy to hear what you think of the idea. Comments are greatly appreciated.
@poehah love the idea - was going through the sign-up process to get started but it asks for age. I thought you might just use that info, but it goes on my profile. Not sure why it's needed. I get why you might have it as optional, tho.
@corleyh I understand your point :) it seems important for people to know the age of the person they'll meet so I included it. Some also said it's a basis of trust. I should maybe think about including the age group instead of the actual age. Would that be better? Did you cancel the signup because of the age?
@poehah@corleyh Maarten - I have to agree with Corley, it was jarring to have my date of birth requested. And then the signup has completed, and Gender/picture are blank while age is shown? It's very odd. I'd personally much prefer the standard minimum-impact signup, followed by soft prompts afterwards on the profile page encouraging me to fill out the profile to build trust.
@alainv@corleyh Thanks for the feedback Alain. I'll look into simplifying the signup. I'm afraid a lot of users won't complete their profile, that's why I had a few things done at signup.
