Be Golden helps you measure and manage your inflammation levels. You use at home blood-based blood testing to measure your baseline levels and a digital platform to get insight into how they change with lifestyle choices (nutrition, sleep, exercise, stress).
Hi all! We are Sneh and Kimberly from Be Golden, and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on with you all.
The Challenge
>50% of American adults have high inflammation levels. Inflammation isn’t regularly tested at the doctor’s office, meaning many people don’t know their levels. Knowing our inflammation levels is important because they are a key to functioning at our best. Inflammation can affect a wide range of health issues, including: energy levels, fertility, migraines, IBS, and chronic disease (i.e., cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s).
The Solution
Be Golden helps you measure and manage your inflammation levels using blood-based testing and a self-care platform. How it works:
– MEASURE your baseline inflammation levels using an at home, finger prick based, blood test. Receive your results and how they compare to other people like you.
– TRY A NEW HABIT from our list of personalized options from the scientific literature (or something else) and track how often you complete it.
– RE-MEASURE every 1-2 months and receive analytics on changes to your habits and inflammation scores.

About Us
Sneh has a Doctorate in Pharmacy and an MBA from Harvard. She underwent a bilateral lumpectomy but is still at high risk of breast cancer. She learned that chronic inflammation can be a driver of tumor development, progression and treatment responsiveness and that simple lifestyle changes could reduce her levels. She successfully decreased her levels by making changes. In the image above, you can see her levels dropped quite a bit until the end of last year and unfortunately have recently been on an upswing as she settles into the role of an entrepreneur :). It’s a warning to not slip into old patterns.
Kimberly has a Bachelor’s degree from MIT, a Master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics and a PhD in Biology from Stanford. She was a scientist at 23andMe where she developed ancestry and health insights from genomic data. She teamed up with Sneh after realizing that genetics often isn’t our destiny, and lifestyle changes often make a bigger impact on our health.
We are building Be Golden to spread this knowledge and to help others live healthier lives. We believe inflammation will be the next big thing in healthcare, and we aim to unlock new avenues to preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases. We’d love to have you join our community and help us understand how it can be more helpful for you!
@kimberly_mcmanus I am conflicted about your launch because I applaud the idea of watching your inflammation markers but your cost is high. I can walk into LapCorp and run this test for $60 even here in Appalachia within a half hour. In SF, you can do it for $30. Plus this is such a non-specific measure that your advice is going to be very generic: eat alkaline, reduce stress, incorporate antioxidants in your diet, drink water, get 8 hrs sleep—is this part of a larger road map that will add value later or are you just marking up the sticker price on lab tests?
@kikischirr Thank you for your comment! Our initial tests are at-home finger prick based blood tests which are more costly due to shipping costs, packaging, etc. In the future, we’d like to also open up the platform to people who have their tests done elsewhere, as well as add additional biomarkers. Our value added on top of the lab tests is helping with the habit changes to lower inflammation markers. We provide, track and analyze personalized lifestyle interventions. We have text message based check-ins / summary reports to help people see how their lifestyle changes affect their inflammation markers. Over time, we plan to increase personalization (for example, by identifying which interventions have worked best in people like them and which ones may best fit into their lifestyle). Longer term, we also plan to use this as a platform to contribute to greater knowledge surrounding inflammation, including additional lifestyle changes that can impact inflammation.
@kimberly_mcmanus thank you for your response! I hadn’t considered the pinprick/mail response format to be a feature but you’re right that it justifiably adds to the cost and value. I guess keep my gut-check response in mind regarding your messaging—you might want to stress that format as a convenience/premium service 🤔🤷♀️ Are you going to be collecting data from users as well as providing it?
@kikischirr we really appreciate this feedback and we’ll take this into account in our future messaging! Initially our lifestyle recommendations come from the scientific literature. Users can take our suggestions and/or contribute their own ideas. There are many types of interventions that haven’t been studied (or haven’t been studied deeply enough or in the relevant populations) that we think there is a lot of opportunity to generate new, useful knowledge about inflammation from the platform.
