We’re building a one-of-a-kind community for Python developers who want to be the best at what they do. Expand your network. Collaborate on projects. Receive mentorship. Learn with peers.
Hey there, PH community 👋!
I’m Jay, one of the founders of Based Python.
Based Python is a private and exclusive community for Python enthusiasts—a one-of-a-kind community for Python developers who want to be the best at what they do.
Here’s our story: It all started in May 2020. Long-time friends Jay and Tim decided to build a software product together, so we created a Slack workspace to communicate (this seemed like a better idea than texting or emailing back and forth). Over time, we recruited more friends and colleagues to join us, and by early September 2020, our Slack workspace had a total of 8 members—all engineers. By then, we also had a GitHub organization for all of us to collaborate on our code. Fast forward to November 2020, we made the hard decision to stop building our original product. This is when we realized we loved our little collective so much that we should still keep it alive and see where it goes. Over time, we invited more and more folks we thought would bring value to the collective. To maintain the quality of our collective, each and every person we added was carefully discussed and voted on by existing members. Fast forward to September 2023, our collective had ballooned to our 50th member. Our members are located in more than 15 countries, speak many languages (including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, etc.), and have software development experiences ranging from 2 years to over 25 years. Our Slack workspace has become a treasure trove of channels covering a wide range of topics, from audio processing to large language models—just about any question you have, there’s likely a member with an answer. We mentor each other. We meet in person whenever possible. We host awesome tech talks. The list goes on. Managing this private little collective has been a lot of work over the years and we’ve learned a lot. We recently decided to build on this experience and build an entirely new community for Python developers.
We’ll officially be launching on January 15, 2024, but we wanted to share the opportunity with anyone in the PH community who’d like to reserve a spot since membership will be invite-only and referral-based after launch.
