Use Audiopile to record, upload, transcode, stream and share high resolution audio in any format. A simple, professional tool for managing audio data in the cloud!
What’s up Product Hunt!
I’m a musician turned developer and this is the app of my dreams!
Audiopile allows you to record and upload audio in various formats, transcodes everything server side to create a lower-res streamable version, and stores the original and it’s transcoded version in the cloud. Recordings can then be shared between Audiopile users in private groups or re-downloaded at full resolution.
After years of playing in bands and struggling with large format audio, I’m finally starting to be satisfied with this solution. Plenty of tools exist to share large files, but Audiopile is designed to make sharing and previewing these files easy and fun. Transferring and previewing audio is clunky at best with current tools. You shouldn’t have to download giant files to your phone if you only want to give them a quick listen.
While many audio apps are designed with public consumer-side distribution in mind, I tried to build something that caters more to content creators.
A side benefit of creating this app has been the endless stream of lovely new music that my friends are sharing with me every day. Sometimes the coolest music is the stuff that isn’t out yet, and I’m part of a few great idea feeds and rehearsal groups. The secret music being created and sent only to you and a few others in real-time makes this app a whole lot of fun!
I’m currently offering new users free access to the app with a usage limit. Then charging a monthly fee for unlimited access. Currently limited to 25 uploads and then price at 3.99/month. I’m very interested to see how people use the app and I’m definitely open to modifying the pricing scheme. Would love some feedback on this specifically.
Tech info: Client-side it’s React and React-Native. All core business logic for uploading and state management is fully isomorphic JS. for the heavier audio recording and playback functionality the app bridges out to native code on each platform (Swift & Java). Then there’s a whole lot of Python, Terraform and GCP behind the curtain.
Audiopile is a totally indie, bootstrapped app with no outside funding, so please tell your friends! There’s so much more I want to do with this idea, but I really need to prove the viability of the app. I’m looking forward to gathering a few paid users and continuing to build out this app in the new year.
P.S.: When I’m not building software of my own design, I’m available for consulting/contracting on cloud infrastructure, react-native/mobile, or web dev work of any kind. If you need a hand, please reach out!

@devon_meadows Recordings are private and only accessible to others in your group. The app does not currently support end to end encryption (we need to transcode and modify files on the backend and this requires access to unencrypted files)
Clean and smooth app! Great utility for musicians as well as sound designers. I can whip this puppy out anytime I hear a sound I like and share that with a friend/collaborator in seconds, with good quality playback. I’ve been using it daily! Thanks!
Super sick app. Great alternative to Dropbox or gsuite for people who record large files and share among studio friends and musicians. Brian is a smart dude. No doubt this app will keep getting better and better.
