Learn better with less effort thanks to your personal AI tutor! Solve fun puzzles about key concept from thousands of courses at Harvard, Stanford, EPFL. Students who learn regularly with Ari 9000 get 20% better grades.
@timusk Hi Tim!
Thanks for your question and encouragements :)
So the general idea of the project is to use AI, or indeed machine learning, to help us learn better: human learning enhanced by machine learning. Ari builds a dynamical model of your knowledge in order to personalize your learning and make it much more efficient.
More concretely, this is achieved by first creating a space of knowledge using natural language processing. This space contains all the concepts from a given subject that you want to learn (biology, computer science, business, physics, and so on), organized in such a way that concepts that belong to the same context are neighbors.
As you start solving puzzles Ari will gradually infer your knowledge levels based on your performance. Ari will also study how your memory works (using online gradient descent) in order to determine how fast you will forget each new concept that you're learning. This is then used to devise a personalized revision program based on the well-established psychological principle of "spaced repetition", which has been shown to optimize learning efficiency and long-term retention.
Everything that Ari learns about you can be visualized to motivate you and encourage "meta-learning" (learning about how you learn). Your learnet, for "learning network", represents your knowledge as a 3D constellation of concepts, with the brightness corresponding to your knowledge level. In addition, your recall graph shows you how fast you are likely to forget each of these concepts.
Let me finally mention that machine learning is also used to generate quizzes in the first place. This process combines topic modeling for course material with network science applied to Wikipedia. The type and difficulty of quizzes is then personalized to each learner.
I hope this gives you a better idea of the array of machine learning approaches that we use to help you learn as intelligently as possible!
Happy learning,
Maxime
Hi @maxime_gabella
I signed up on product hunt exclusievly to comment on this to connect with you. I see you have 3 universities currently listed with a list of course for all of them.
I believe you have collaboration with these universities to create the content or maybe you are using open course or MOOCs like hbx.
With this in mind I have a few questions, could you or a user add his own material to this AI and let it teach you? For example I am currently studying the indian banking laws. I have text and content. COuld I give it you and you could add it for me to learn? I mean is there a feature or possibility of a feature like this?
If yes, please tell us how
If no, please develop such feature where a user would be able upload his own material and the AI will process it and teach him just the way it does with the currently uploaded courses.
You will help a lot of students to grow exponentially during this lockdown.

@ritwik_agrawal Hi Ritwik,
Thank you very much for your question! I'm very pleased to see it because this is precisely one of the key features that we plan to develop and your request confirms that it would indeed be useful.
The procedure would be that any user can upload some learning material (lecture notes, course descriptions, articles, etc.) and Ari would then automatically identify the most relevant topics and generate puzzles about them.
What I would like to propose is that you send me the texts about Indian banking law that you mentioned and I will think about the best way to incorporate it in the app. You can email me at maxime@magmalearning.com.
Cheers,
Maxime
@magmalearning@maxime_gabella Hello,
thank you for your response, I am mailing a rar file to you containing some pdf and word files. I don't know the format to feed in data, so please free to use them as individual modules.
