Google's AMP links are super annoying. Inconsistent, often broken pages, mangled, long links to share, more user tracking. Bleh. Amplosion on iOS 15 fixes this by automatically blocking AMP pages and redirecting to the normal version. And it's open source!
@chrismessina Hahaha, it's *almost* bittersweet building a product people are annoyed has to exist, but I'm also happy to be able to stop them from being annoyed any longer. 😛
Hey Product Hunt,
My first big app was (is!) Apollo, a Reddit app for iOS based around taking in user feedback and shaping the best Reddit experience out there around it. A request I've had for years has been to redirect AMP links, but it's been really tricky only having the URL to go off of.
This past June Apple announced Safari extensions at WWDC and I knew that I could finally do exactly what people have been asking me, and I got to work.
Enter Amplosion. It completely blocks/redirects Google AMP links on iOS, so you never have to see another inconsistent, broken, janky page with a mangled URL you're embarrassed to share. You just get the good ol' web as it was intended.
⭐️ What Makes Amplosion Special
- Easy to use. Just download it and turn it on.
- Open source, with everything done on-device. You can check yourself: https://github.com/christianseli...
- Customizable. If there's one or two websites you want to leave AMP on for, add them to the Allowlist.
- Stats, and good looking ones. Shows a breakdown of how many AMP pages have been blocked with a beautiful, live 3D flip counter. With an additional per-site breakdown.
- Simple, up-front, one-time purchase like it's an app from 2011. $3. No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, etc.
🐶 There's a Tamagotchi
Okay and there's one last little secret. It has a Tamagotchi-style pet dog named Lord Waffles that lives in the Settings screen that you can play with and get items for. You ever download like a keyboard app and it's like "Okay, enable me, bye" and there's like nothing to the actual app itself? I figured, why not have a dog that lives in the app? I love how it turned out, I hired a professional pixel artist (Lux) to design the code, and he's so freaking adorable.
🧡 Thanks for Having Me
I'm really excited for this. I launched on Monday and have had really great reception over the last few days with tons of people stoked to finally get rid of AMP, and I'd really just love to hear what you folks think and if you have any feedback.

(Also just wanted to say thank you so much to Chris for hunting this. Legitimately such a nice guy.)
