Hello everyone, It's Greg, a cat dad and a solo founder at automation agency Business Automated! TL;DR On day I needed to change a massive nested IF (x30) Airtable formula to SWITCH, which would be a rather long and tedious task. I asked ChatGPT and it perfectly reworked the Airtable formula! I realized it could also write formulas from a scratch. I though it would be great to have this feature directly in Airtable inside formula field, minus that unnecessary Chat explanations chatter. This extension does just that! Type what you want your Airtable formula to do, press "Hint GPT" button, get the formula! Long version As part of my work at Business Automated, I've had the opportunity to work with various types of businesses running their operation on Airtable. While Airtable is predominantly a no-code tool, the ability to create formulas unlocks a lot of value. Even if I build the complete Airtable setup, sooner or later the business users end up, adding and modifying formulas. However, not everyone is well-versed in creating these formulas. At the same time, I have been also a fan of Github Copilot and its ability to suggest code snippets. After some tests with Open AI GPT models turns out, they actually do pretty decent job with Airtable formulas! That's where the idea for "Airtable Hint GPT" came from! 😊 Whether you're new to Airtable or a seasoned user, I believe this tool can accelerate your Airtable work! If you know next to nothing about Airtable formulas - you might get the right one even without at the help section. If you are an experienced pro. It might be lower mental cost to type what you need and correct outcome, rather than type from scratch. More points - GPT models - tend to hallucinate - it might suggest you formulas that do not exist- this is easy to spot and Airtable will not save the formula. 😵 - GPT models - might return correct looking things, but always double check if it follows the logic you wanted 🧐 - The extension requires Open AI account to work 🧠 - The GPT 4 model returns better formulas vs GPT 3.5. @frida_lee Hey, thanks for the kind words! The AI integration part was relatively compared trying to add custom interface displayed on top of Airtable code... To no surprise Airtable is quite advanced, but they had a couple things on their page like taking over the click events and "Backspace", which made it quite tricky to display extension settings inside Airtable. I really wanted to have this as closely integrated as possible.

This is so smart! I've totally struggled with Airtable formulas before and tried scouring the forums for help ... only to get stuck and/or frustrated. Two thoughts: 1. I prefer to use the dedicated Airtable app, so I presume I'm SOL in terms of being able to use this extension? 2. I have a couple formulas that essentially perform mail merges using data merged into a URL-encoded mailto: URL. Do you think there's a different (more generic) prompt that could be used for URL encoding?

@chrismessina thanks for the comment! I have actually tested it on some question from the discussion forum, and it does cover a lot of the general cases. "dedicated Airtable app" - you mean mobile app? If yes, than unfortunately at the moment as this will work only in browser as external app added literally on top of Airtable thanks to Chrome extension APIs. I think good proof of concept for Airtable - they might consider integrating something like that! Thinking of mail merge, I would always go for Make.com at the back as it gives me more flexibility to create the emails (use single select to mark emails to send, with Make running search for those in the background). Prompting wise - I would explicitly tell it to uncode URL and if that is misunderstood, tell to use ENCODE_URL_COMPONENT specifically.
