The AI Postcard Generator builds postcards based on your input. It takes into account your location, and relationship with the recipient. You can tailor the card by providing three keywords that will be reflected in the text and image.
I've been working in IT for the last 10 years. While I studied business informatics and learned how to code, I never enjoyed writing code that much as I felt that I was not fast and good enough. However, I loved working on IT projects e.g. house automation, DIY photobox, raspberry pis etc.
After 10 years of working at SAP, I decided to go on a six-month sabbatical traveling the world together with my fiancé. Strolling through the busy roads of Canggu in Bali, I saw a couple of stores that sold postcards, which reminded me to send one to my parents. But I didn't want a standard postcard and decided that I would ask ChatGPT to create one for me. From there, I couldn't let it go anymore and got absorbed in the world of the OpenAI APIs. I started trying out which prompts work well and which don't.
The most important part for me personally was to finish a coding project end-to-end. I learned so much, and I know there is a lot I could improve, but it feels like a massive achievement to have built an end-to-end postcard generator that other people can use.
I will continue practicing and building MVPs to solve problems I see around me because that really caught my attention.
@ianwdj Thanks, Ian! Tbh frontend is for me currently the hardest challenge. I'll continue learning and improving by starting with deep dive sessions on React Native. Besides that setting up the entire end to end infrastructure (Server, development environment, CI/CD pipeline etc.) was new to me.
Now after the launch I want to focus even more on bridging the gap between the user feedback and the product development lifecycle - so I'd appreciate any feedback you have.
