We're a tool that helps you find the names that are near impossible to find on your own. Names that are unexpected yet tell meaningful stories about your offering - revealed through Aesop’s deliberate process, built on decades of professional experience.
Today, I’m announcing the launch of a cool little product I built: say hello to Aesop. Much like me, Aesop is a namer. More specifically, it’s a self-serve SaaS tool that helps people find exceptional names for their brand, business, product, or project. The kinds of names that are near impossible to find on your own.
I have been working as a verbal identity specialist and brand strategist for nearly two decades. This means I spend my days coming up with the names, narratives, stories and strategies that bring brands and businesses to life. And I love it. Because I love words. I love how they come together to communicate interesting and inspiring things. And I love the feeling you get when you read something you find really cool and creative.
And that’s why I made Aesop. When the advent of generative AI opened all these creationary doors, I wanted to build a platform that would democratize the power of smart, distinctive names and the stories they tell. I wanted more brand and business makers to discover first-hand how fun and enlightening finding purposeful language can be. And I wanted more people to experience that feeling of having the right words light up something really special inside them.
“Special” was a guiding principle through Aesop’s development process. I wanted it to be more than just a thesaurus-driven word generator or a nicely designed interface between users and some GPT language model. I wanted to give the business community something they couldn’t quite find anywhere else. I wanted to move beyond the predictable to get somewhere personal. And I wanted to deliver unexpected yet meaningful names that celebrated a creator’s unique vision of the magic they were putting out into the world.
That’s why, while large language models are used to dramatically increase the efficiency and scale of how Aesop ‘mines’ for vocabulary, they are not used to generate names. Instead, Aesop is powered by a proprietary algorithm that literally encodes decades of real-world, professional branding experience into a resource optimized for strategically-creative naming and storytelling. And why Aesop guides each user through their own agency-inspired Discovery Journey to draw out their perspectives on the different dimensions of value their offering brings to the lives of those who use it.
Aesop is for everyone who needs a commercially-focused name. For the start-up looking to name their company. For the SMB looking to name their product. For the communications specialist looking to name their campaign. Or the in-house marketer looking to name their project. It’s for anyone interested in accessing the value really great language can bring to their endeavors. And for anyone who, like me, created something they think will help others find what they need.
I still spend most of my time working with enterprise-size clients – now through my boutique brand consultancy, Story Style Sound. And over my many years in the branding industry, I have seen how the right name can positively impact a business in so many amazing ways. From a revenue perspective. From a PR perspective. From a cultural perspective. My hope is that Aesop connects more people with these kinds of names – helping them to define and unfold their own extraordinary stories.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!
@sophie_jay Thanks so much! Here is the back story behind our name and brand identity (just in case you're interested in the details):
We believe in the irreplaceable power of the human experience. Which is why human proficiency – and not artificial intelligence – is the cornerstone of how our platform was built and the driving force behind the names and stories it creates. And why our brand identity is a celebration of human prowess.
The name Aesop is a testament to the longevity of purposeful stories born from the human mind and human heart. The messages of Aesop’s Fables have remained part of our collective conversation for over two thousand years because they reflect the knowledge, perspective and intuition that can only arise from the human experience.
The Aesop logo is inspired by the movement of Double Dutch ropes and the astounding feats accomplished by the jumper within them. The idea of Double Dutch captivated us because it represents how an environment defined by combined, interactive forces can give rise to memorable and amazing moments. When it comes to Aesop, the two ropes are human expertise and technology. When overlapped, they create the circumstances required to produce something more exciting, more powerful, and more impressive than what either could have brought forth on its own. And what they produce are names with all the energy, agility and excellence of a Double Dutch champion.
Finally, our A icon is a visual symbol of fusing the abilities of artificial intelligence with an insightful and discerning human perspective. In short, an A-Eye.
Looks nice! perhaps consider a feature where users can see how their proposed names might be perceived in different cultures or languages. This could be a valuable addition for businesses aiming for a global reach.
@ouyangke Absolutely agree! We have tons of ideas for cool new features that will enhance our user experience and the value of the names it provides. Stay tuned!
Fyi to anyone trying it out - It's paywalled at the very end. (Just an fyi - it seems like a great product.) It came as a surprise after my effort to fill out 15min of forms. :) I totally may have missed a warning/disclaimer about this pre-form filling, but I would appreciate if it warned me a bit more pre-signup.
Has some solid questions/prompts to answer along the way and the branding is nice. Tanya clearly has expertise and the tool was great as a brainstorming exercise. (Even w/o the names at the end.)
Side Troubleshooting/Tech issue: The payment link did not work for me at the end. https://share.cleanshot.com/L5lW...
I tried exiting/going back into it from the dashboard, and couldn't get it to 'click'. Using Brave browser + MBA.
Congrats on the launch! Neat tool and story, hope to see some brands use it to launch :)
And Edit: To be clear, I love this product concept and want to support, just wanted to throw an fyi for the community. :) Not meant to troll/be harsh at all.
@esus Thanks for the checking us out and for the helpful feedback! We love to hear the concept feels solid and that you found the Discovery Journey useful for brainstorming. And big thanks for the heads up on the payment link. We became aware of that this morning and it has since been fixed (definitely not the tech issue we wanted on Day 1). We hope you come back and take a look at your names!
