To answer your question, AER Dryer is close to 2 lbs (0.9 kg), which is as heavy as a standard hair dryer, if not lighter.

We are so excited to bring AER Dryer into the brave new world of world of Product Hunt. AER's mission is to revolutionize hair dryer technology that hasn't changed much since 1920s and to simply cut the cord.
It's incredible to see fundamentally the same design over and over again for more than 100 years with incremental improvements (looking at some other dryers with a big hole in them 🙄 ) while all the other consumer electronics categories have seen rapid innovation.
We've been hard at work since 2012 to deliver something that we've been told to be simply impossible because "the battery technology just isn't there yet!" - So we developed it ourselves. 🤓
AER Dryer is almost ready for prime time as we are done with RD and moving into mass production as we speak. We are on track to deliver the first batch by the end of this year. To allow our early adopters to support the project, we just launched our Kickstarter on June 2nd and hit our goal under 30 minutes, currently tracking over 300% for day 1. @vverweij thank you for the comment and I take it as a compliment :) Honestly it's totally justifiable to think that, considering all the hair dryers, even the $500 ones on the market. As I tried to explain in my first comment, that's why we thought it's the perfect category to disrupt too.
Just to provide more details, our patented SmartDry™ AI uses 13 built-in heat and humidity sensors to understand how long it usually takes to dry your hair and gradually adapts heat and fan speed as it learns your preferences. So instead of manually adjusting all the settings all the time (like with any other dryer), you simply press 'SmartDry' button and let AER gradually cool down the temperature and adjust the air flow with the perfect settings personalized for you.
AER's also the only dryer out there that pairs with your phone via AER app to periodically download firmware updates in order to improve the device as you continue to use it, similar to a Tesla car.
We even have a 3-axis Accelerometer inside in order to support features like automatic idleness recognition, detecting free fall to safely shutdown and gesture recognition in the future. So yeah we don't use the words 'Smart' and 'AI' casually.
I know even these features and functions are very unexpected for a hair dryer and we didn't even get to the fact that it's cordless thanks to the patented battery technology couple of years ahead of what's currently available to others.
