My name is Kiflay teweldebrhane, i am software Engineer. I have first arrived to the UK from a country called Eritrea in East Africa. When i first arrived in UK in 2008, I arrived not in a plane but through a journey on foot, cars, boats through traffickers. On UK as English wasn't my first languages I had to teach myself how to speak and improve the language by integrating in the community and started to work as Barber. Then after 6 in the UK when i graduated and started to work as Software Engineer, there were also a lot of refuge from Eritrea, Sudan and Ethiopia which had the same problem as i had when i first arrived in the UK. At that time Tigrinya which is the language spoken in East Africa wasn't even added to list of languages in google. So there was no product or app that could be used to translate full sentences or define words specifically from Tigrinya to English. Then i started to collect dictionary books and asked friends to manually add into Excel files. This was back in 2016. So we have managed to add list of about 60000 of words in Excel file and this manual work took almost 2 years. Once i had the Excel file i have used XAMARIN to develop the Android, IPhone and Window 10 desktop app. At the moment the Tigrinya dictionary app define words with examples between 10 most spoken languages. Also it translates full sentences. Features of the Tigrinya Dictionary app: 1: You can translate words between Amharic, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Arabic and Tigrinya. 2: It has audio pronunciation of the word you are looking up. 3: Offline access with no internet connection required to use this app! You can still translate without an internet connection or data plan. 4: Autocomplete helps you type faster. So that You can find what you're looking for more easily. 5: Get a word of the day notification on your phone or tablet every morning. This way you'll always know what's happening around the world! 6: Display recently searched words for quick access to them again without having to search through all of them manually. 7: Set UI language to any language you want, anytime you want! 8: Your favourite words list will also be displayed. 9: You can also invite friends to the app through WhatsApp, Facebook messenger and other social media apps functionality.
