A Billion Dreams

Hi there, Product Hunt Community! My name is Alyssia and I’m the founder of A Billion Dreams, a non-profit organization. My long-term vision with A Billion Dreams is to contribute to science and technology by raising money to launch our own satellites, eventually enabling our organization to conduct biomedical research in space that will benefit many more people. WHY As a survivor of a rare cancer diagnosis in my early twenties, I know first hand how important creating more avenues for experimental scientific research is. With the decommissioning of the International Space Station expected in the next 5-10 years, it is more important than ever to find more ways to enable this kind of scientific research. A DREAM CAN CHANGE YOUR TRAJECTORY Another learning that I had while battling my cancer diagnosis was that having a dream and an intention behind that dream, can do wonders for the soul. A dream can change your entire trajectory. That’s why I wanted to take this opportunity to give people a way to give those dreams more intention and meaning. Sending a name and/or a dream to space can inspire folks to keep dreaming and persevering, especially when things get hard. HOW IT WORKS As part of A Billion Dreams’ fundraising initiatives, we have been granted the ability to send a golden dream plaque on a satellite launching on the SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter-10 Rocket. This is where your dreams come in. With our Product Hunt launch, you and your loved ones can send your name (25 characters) or dream (up to 70 characters) on our A Billion Dreams plaque. After making your purchase, you will receive a form to fill in your information. You’ll have until September 30, 2023, to fill it out, which gives you plenty of time to consult with a loved one or think about the message you want to send to space. We’ll then share regular updates on the launch and the satellite’s progress as it orbits the Earth. We will also create a map that you can use to track its location in orbit around the Earth. Whether your dream is to become an astronaut, a doctor, an artist, or launch on Product Hunt, you can empower your own dreams while contributing to many others. 2500 TICKETS Our goal is to sell 2500 tickets, which would enable us to send our own satellite after the dream plaque launch, carry more names and dreams, and partner with hospitals and research organizations to conduct research in orbit.
