Scan object with LIDAR, or if unavailable, use a custom AR guide. Convert the scan to a 3D object right on compatible iPhones or iPads. For other devices, export your pics to the completely free Mac app for processing. And export your model for 3D printing!
Hey y'all! When Apple's iOS 17 photogrammetry tools came out in the betas, I jumped at the chance to use them. I love making augmented reality experiences, and bringing the real world into the digital like this (and back into the real world with 3D printing if you would like), is pure magic. Especially imaging how folks can use the app to bring their world more easily to others, for education, commerce, gaming and so on.
Apple released source code with iOS 17 so the LIDAR scanning was simple to put together, but it was apparent that a lot of devices wouldn't be able to use the coolest scanning bit with LIDAR, so I also made an AR guide to capture just the images themselves so that iPhones and iPads that can't LIDAR scan or process the images on the device can export the images to the Mac, where you can also export the AR USDZ file or the STL and OBJ files for 3D printing.
So, at the moment, no need for a subscription or what not. Everything works on your own devices.
Let me know what you think!
