According to multiple reports including Bloomberg, Adobe and Figma are set to finalise a deal for the purchase of Figma for a whopping $20 billion!
What do you think of this deal, does it make sense, do you wish Figma would stay independent? π§
Update: Since writing this, Adobe have confirmed that they are in fact buying Figma, Figma will remain independent and Dylan Field will remain as CEO.

Great for them, bad for us. I pay such insane prices for Adobe, paying 90% for tools I don't even use. Figma was a bright spot in design tools that I thought could eventually lead Adobe to changing up their pricing in order to compete

@aaronoleary oh 100%. Adobe one time wouldn't let me cancel a license when an employee of mine DIED. True story.

Definitely not a fan of this since I generally like what Figma has been doing, and generally not impressed with Adobe (and I started at Photoshop 2 (?) in the 90's!). Seems like Adobe could face some monopoly legal risks, as well.
@coreywstone I've also watched Adobe morph and grow over the last 30 years. My first vector drawing program was Aldus Freehand! I remember Altsys/Aldus merged with Adobe, but the FTC nixed the deal in 1994 over market monopoly concerns. Of course Altsys was later bought by Macromedia, which was then bought by Adobe. π I would love it if Adobe would fold Figma in with the full CC Suite for the same subscription price. But Adobe's history makes me less than optimistic.
We already pay full subscription for Adobe and Figma separately. After the merge, I assume, Adobe will ditch XD and replace with Figma. As a result, we'll likely to pay less invoice :)
But today Adobe Inc:
318.57 USD
β$52.17 (14.07%)today
Time to leave Figma because it is no more independent.

I think the deal makes sense personally but I do personally hope to see Figma independent, it's amazing having such a strong competitor to the previous monopoly on design tools from Adobe!
@aaronoleary Why personally? Isn't that the only opinion you have.
I also have the same feeling. Great tool, to bag it is attached to a big slow moving one.
Just hope it wonβt be a disaster for Figma users π
Tailkits
Wow, that is a surprise and not a surprise at the same time :)
Figma defeated them all!!

@yucelfaruksahan If you can't beat em, buy em π€·ββοΈ
@aaronoleary well said:)
BrandBird
Hope Adobe XD continues to exist so Adobe can test their "ideas" there, and leave Figma alone π€
Anti trust laws? Yes, no? Interesting how this went on so smoothly.
TemplateShake
Will see what happens in nearest future.
I guess it's a great chance for Sketch as an independent designer tool also.
But, probably they buy the whole team and will not change the major direction of the product.

20B in this economy?!
@emmettnaughton You _really_ twisted my arm... but okay!
Buying Bottlenecks by Storylane
Not a good news, I think.
Fearful of what this will mean regarding pricing plans and accessibility for smaller teams moving forward.

20B deal with 10B in cash would be a nobrainer for me too π
Big companies usually try to buy competitors to remain relevant or chase them with copying features. If you look at the past, most fail. If Figma is truly left alone, then it has a chance. If not, then it opens the doors to another new startup coming in and winning the hearts of designers. Can't blame Figma though for jumping at a deal like that!
revid.ai
Wow! I just hope they don't make it completely paid like other Adobe products.

Do you think this will promote more Figma plugins in the community?
I like how Figma does not have feature bloat and no subscription.
I Hope Adobe leaves it as is.
